If sensorineural hearing loss is present, then hearing aids are advocated in many cases. It is important to understand that hearing aids do not “give you your hearing back.” They merely amplify external sounds to help boost the hearing that still remains. Most candidates who receive hearing aids come to the conclusions they are missing out on significant information due to poor hearing. They have been bothered by family members who are frustrated with their inability to hear. They are frequently told that the radio, TV, are too loud, and are often reminded that they frequently ask “what?” during a conversation.
We at Cedar Crest ENT Associates have a certified Audiologist who evaluates patients along with the physician to determine the best course of management for the hearing impaired patient. We prefer to utilize several different hearing aid manufacturers because of the individual needs and preferences of each patient. We also frequently deal with the following manufacturers: Oticon, Microtech, Phonak, Siemens and Starkey, among others.
